AGM

This years AGM will be held at the BNSS on Sunday 16th October at 3:30 pm. It should be a good afternoon with free tea and cake and a tour of the museum after the meeting at aproximatley 4:30. The Friends of Boscombe Chine Gardens are meeting earlier at 2:30 pm and you are welcome to attend both meetings. Tea and Cake will be served between the two meetings so their will be chance to meet and chat with some of their members too.

Great 2011 Prize Draw

Memberships are an important source of funding for the group. To encourage people to renew we will be holding a prize draw at the AGM with all current members automatically entered, including anyone who joins at the AGM.
Top Prize a week’s use of a surf pod.
Runners up prizes include a meal for two at the Pier Diner and a meal for two at Urban Reef. Our thanks go to Bournemouth Council, Reefside Catering and Urban Reef for their generous donations of the prizes.

Pier of Year 2010

Boscombe was voted Pier of the Year for 2010 by the National Piers Society? “Winning the Pier of the Year award is a great honour and everyone involved in the pier’s restoration, reopening and the events held on it since can feel very proud.” See the full article in the Echo Best Amongst Its Piers

Kiosks

The Kiosks include a café with indoor seating, an ice cream parlour, takeaway and shop that will importantly still carries newspapers. Opened in March 2011 they completed the regeneration of the land based elements of the Boscombe Spa Project. More details of the services are available on their website: www.reefsidecatering.com

Inspieration

Inspieration - the Friends of Boscombe Pier was officially formed in September 2008 following the ratification of the constitution at the first open meeting held at The Chine Hotel. Since then we have successfully offered support to grant applications for the sea front, and worked with the council to help represent resident's views. We are activley promoting the pier and it's surroundings as space for artistic and cultural events. With ever increasing interest in Boscombe seafront and with the development of the surf reef our membership is continuing to grow.

The Art

We are committed to developing the Pier as a venue for Artists to display their work. We hope to see more success stories like local craftsman Wayne Willets, who was inspired to create a range of mirrors with a surfing theme. The Reef

The Pier is an excellent vantage point for viewing the Surfing up close. Following the launch of the Reef on the 2nd November 2009 we have not yet had the Winter storms needed for the best waves to be produced. The RNLI have to be commended for providing cover through the winter. Sorted Surf shop are planning a Watersports Festival in March with the first competition on the Reef. Seating

The council have provided 4 new benches in 2010 thanks to various local funds and wards. One of these new benches is dedicated to some much loved local surfers who are no longer with us.
